Antiviren-Apps werden zwar stark beworben und die Benutzer werden mit aus dem Zusammenhang gerissenen Studien verunsichert. Antivirenprogramme am Android-Telefon sind überflüssig und belasten das System (wenn man die Apps aus dem Play Store lädt). Sie laufen genauso wie alle Apps in einer „Sandbox“, wodurch sie nicht in der Lage sind, andere Apps zu überprüfen. Zudem werden Schadprogramme i.d.R. schon aus dem Play Store entfernt, bevor die sie die Virenscanner erkennen.
